The other day I saw a YouTuber I follow make a text post that said almost verbatim “sometimes I when I watch a thought provoking movie, I find I think about it for several days afterwards.” the highlighted comment was someone saying “I think that’s called hyperfixation?”
People seem to be increasingly oblivious to the difference between thinking about or liking something, fixating or focusing on it, and /hyper/fixation as a disxriptor of the extreme of this that occurs in neurodivergent people.
If someone reads “I think about things sometimes” and sees “hyperfixation”, then I can totally see it following that “I think about people sometimes” becomes synonymous with “I am an obsessive creepy stalker with no boundaries”
Which. Sure is something.
Obviously the trend of people being weird about ‘you need consent to have a crush, but also crushes are a sin’ has been a slow rolling train wreck for a few years now, but seeing that YouTube comment made something click for me
“Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope.”

“If you know the painting by Caravaggio, Doubting Thomas, it was my direct inspiration for this piece.
A doubting Thomas is a skeptic who refuses to believe without direct personal experience. 50-60 years ago, it was not uncommon for people to think or believe that being gay was a phase or a mental illness or deviance in some shape or form. It’s embarrassing that the same things are being said about trans people today.”
No One Ever Helped Me So I Will Never Help Anyone Else & Do Not Believe Anyone Should Be Helped Ever is one of thee most loser mindsets btw
the world has been unkind to you so you continue the cycle of unkindness by passing on hatred and indifference to others? Wow. groundbreaking. you’re so cool and tormented
timelessness as a concept has done wonders to my faith
God is beyond beginning. we are constantly being created in His image. Each day a recreation of the first.
God is constantly speaking, even in the silence He is always embodied in human flesh (look around you!). He is always being crucified on the cross, and he is always resurrecting. God is here right now!
God is beyond ending. The apocalypse is here, is gone, and always will be; can you feel Christ’s return flowing through your veins as the earth whirls around you? Every moment a new world is formed.
I love this. It ties in really well with a lot of the learning I’ve done myself in the last year.
I think of the concept of anamnesis, which is a means by which remembering a thing makes that thing present. In a lot of Eucharistic theology, it’s the means by which the liturgy of the Eucharist makes Christ’s sacrifice present. In the liturgy, we are actually present at the Crucifixionby remembering it in a way that brings it to us in time.
It makes me think of the timeless realm depicted in traditional iconography, which allows you to look into a time beyond time.
And it makes me think of the concept of the eighth day, which is why ancient (and some modern) baptismal fonts have 8 sides. Seven represent the days of creation, and the eighth represents the new creation.
Anyway, yeah, I feel this hard, you write it beautifully, and I love it for you.
